For so long when Sarah entered a company of “kissy” people (where you need to kiss every last one of them before you can get past the saying hello part) she hated it and never understood why they just didn’t take my distant “hi” as enough as a welcoming gesture. But now, Sarah misses it… She misses kissing people she hardly knows and misses seeing circles of people and not knowing half of them. She misses strolling around at night and having a drunk friend jump at her when she passed… She misses not having to choose who was “important” enough for you to be welcomed in your house. She misses being around people where an uncontrolled touch wasn’t a thing. She misses life, misses people. And this work is just everything Sarah misses. Missing to feel free…

This is Sarah De Bruecker’s life story. Sarah is from Aalst and went to Bolivia when she was 18. She worked as a volunteer with children from the streets. Nowadays she works at the labour union as a Paralegal advisor. Sarah is a boardmember of the Groen departement in Aalst and also a boardmember of vzw BEA in Aalst. This all sounds very serious but she also has a “humorous” cooking vlog under the alias Sarah Brueckie: “Brueckie kookt”. Ever since Sarah was 10 years old, her teachers and mentors told her she had a real talent for the arts. She never stopped painting. Sarah got a degree at the local arts academy by studying part-time but never stepped forward with any of her works. She has done charity donations which brought in a high amount of money. Currently, she’s low-key working on making her first art vernissage happening. Since last summer Sarah gave birth to her first child, a daughter. Very unplanned, but more than welcome. Her daughter switched perspectives for Sarah and she started looking into her legacy. And this is it, this is how Sarah wants her daughter to see her mum, to remember, to describe…
