‘Brood’ is part of a series of images from a couple of recent studio sessions. Before making new work there often is this tension building up. A getting into the zone, waiting for the planets to align, or whatever you want to call it. If you are a bird, specialists call it broodiness. It “…is the action or behavioural tendency to sit on a clutch of eggs to incubate them, often requiring the non-expression of many other behaviours including feeding and drinking.” One of the things some artists do before laying their eggs is research. And once you start reading up on all things related to eggs (and you become an amateur zoologist), the similarities seem abundant. So, in short, this is part of a small clutch of images (there are more, and Rein still producing new ones). Maybe there is a wind egg between there, maybe there’s even an easter egg and for sure there are some insurance eggs somewhere.

Rein De Wilde is a self-taught photographer who enjoys and explores the craftsmanship of photography. Not limiting himself to one specific genre means he is as much invested in still life as he is in documentary or fashion photography. A love for and an exploration of the image is central.

This artwork is showcased at Subbacultcha’s Community Exhibition.
