The words ‘live laugh love’ are often seen on cheap mass-produced decorative objects, adorning mother’s houses. Sentences like these often create a fake environment of happiness. Rachel always imagines the view of exploited workers in a factory, forced to watch thousands of these signs come by all day long. Like a sort of brainwash video. She often uses these banal quotes like “home sweet home” to question the normalized things around us. Rachel manipulates and edits these observations to new compositions, most of the time in a humorous way, to show the absurd side of this world. Cutting these words in creates a bigger contrast between the innocent words and what they stand for.

Rachel Daniëls’ Instagram bio says “Oblomov”, which is the name of her Noise project. The title is taken from a Russian novel about a man who is unable to take action or get control over the things that are going wrong in his life. Noise music is the best way to channel these feelings of unease about the things in our world that we cannot grasp. Rachel also studies fine arts, with a specialization in sculpture/installation.

This artwork is showcased at Subbacultcha’s Community Exhibition.
